Athletic Bilbao appoint Ernesto Valverde

Athletic Bilbao have appointed Ernesto Valverde as the club's new manager.

The former Valencia boss will be officially presented at a press conference on Friday.

He replaces Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa, who left the club two weeks ago.

"Athletic Club and Ernesto Valverde have reached an agreement for him to be coach of the first team," a statement on the club's official website read.

"He will be officially presented, alongside President Josu Urrutia, on Friday, June 21."

Valverde left Valencia after they missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season.
