Aston Villa interested in Spurs midfielder Pienaar

Aston Villa are reportedly considering making a move for out-of-favour Spurs midfielder Steven Pienaar.

Pienaar is expected to leave White Hart Lane in January after finding his first-team chances limited following a £2m move from Everton a year ago.

Due to Jermaine Jenas currently being on loan at Villa Park, Alex McLeish must make a permanent move for the South African as Premier League rules do not allow a club to loan more than one player to another club.

Harry Redknapp is expected to demand around £4m for the former Ajax player as he looks to trim his squad.

Sunderland and Everton are also rumoured to be interested in signing the 29-year-old but his former club are only considering a loan move in January.
