Paul Lambert: 'Aston Villa full of confidence'

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert says that his team is full of confidence ahead of this weekend's Premier League meeting with Stoke City.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has said that his team is full of confidence ahead of this weekend's Premier League meeting with Stoke City.

The Villans claimed a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in their last match, and Lambert believes that the result has provided a major boost to his players.

"If you look at our record against the big teams, it's incredible - and I thought we should have had more points," he told the club's official website. "We should have beaten Liverpool at their place and we might have got a point at home to Arsenal - and something at Chelsea too.

"We didn't deserve anything against Man Utd, I accept that. But overall, it could have been more points. That shows the capabilities of the team.

"We have so much confidence now after the Chelsea win. You can sense it. You feel that if we're bang on it, we're a right good side. I hope that the Chelsea result catapults us forward."

Villa are currently 10th in the Premier League table.
