Aston Villa's Andreas Weimann suffers hip, back injuries

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert expects Andreas Weimann to be sidelined for at least a fortnight by hip and back complaints.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has revealed that Andreas Weimann may miss the start of next season after sustaining injuries during last weekend's friendly with Wycombe Wanderers.

Weimann limped out of the match with a hip problem, which Lambert expects to keep the forward sidelined for at least two weeks.

Lambert has conceded that he is worried about a growing number of injuries at Villa Park, less than a month before their opening match against Arsenal on August 17.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "He's got a sore one [Weimann], so I need to see how that goes. It's a sore back and a sore hip.

"Hopefully he'll be okay in, I don't know how long, in the next few weeks or so. We've got too many [injuries] at the minute.

"There's a few knocks we could do without and that's a disappointing thing. There's a few back at the training ground that we'll hopefully get back in the next couple of weeks or so and we'll see how they fare. Once we get them all back fit we'll be pretty strong."

The 21-year-old scored 12 times for Villa last season in all competitions, with his performances enough to earn him a new long-term contract at Villa Park.
