Micah Richards: 'Aston Villa players unwilling to run extra mile'

Aston Villa captain Micah Richards says that there are "too many" members of the team who will not put in that extra work on the pitch.

Aston Villa captain Micah Richards has claimed that there are "too many" members of the squad who are not prepared to "run that extra mile" for the team.

The Midlands outfit are currently at the bottom of the Premier League table, five points from safety.

The team have gone through managerial changes this season, with Tim Sherwood being replaced by Remi Garde, who has overseen a draw and defeat since taking over.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Richards said: "I'm not going to sugarcoat it, we've got too many nice players and we're too easy to play against.

"Everybody seems to be - I wouldn't say passing the blame - but they don't want to run that extra mile and take responsibility. I'm not big on stats but I think we've run the least in the Premier League. If you're not prepared to run the extra yard for your teammate then obviously you're going to concede chances."

Villa have conceded 24 goals and have kept just two clean sheets.
