Ian Holloway: 'Aston Villa should consider Mick McCarthy for next manager'

Holloway: 'Villa should move for McCarthy'

Former Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway has singled out Mick McCarthy as a possible next Aston Villa manager.

For the first time in 29 years, Villa are going to drop down to the second tier this summer, and Holloway believes that McCarthy, the current Ipswich Town manager, could help rebuild them in the Championship.

McCarthy guided Ipswich to the playoffs last season and has gained promotion to the Premier League in the past with Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"Mick McCarthy should be on the shortlist for the next Aston Villa job, without a shadow of a doubt," Holloway told Sky Sports News.

"I think Ipswich will do well to hold onto McCarthy this summer. Someone with his credibility and know-how will be hot property."

Villa have been without a full-time manager since Remi Garde's departure last month.
