Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan has been charged by police after he crashed his car on the motorway.

The 21-year-old has been accused of drink-driving, failing to stop at a road accident, driving a vehicle not in accordance with his licence and driving without due care and attention after the incident on the M1 last month.

Nottinghamshire police confirmed that the Scotland international was charged on Monday.

Bannan has been bailed to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday, November 25.

Shrewsbury Town striker James Collins was also arrested for the incident, but the 20-year-old will not face charges.
