Barry Bannan to hold Olympic talks with Craig Levein

Barry Bannan says that he does not want to play for Team GB if it means that the Scotland fans would turn against him.

Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan will hold showdown talks with Scotland manager Craig Levein before deciding whether to represent Team GB at the Olympics.

The 22-year-old was named on Stuart Pearce's shortlist for this summer's tournament, but does not want to jeopardise any future involvement with his national team.

The SFA have voiced their opposition to the prospect of a Great British team, fearing that is will endanger their sovereignty within the eyes of FIFA.

"I'm fiercely proud to be Scottish and want to play for Scotland," the Daily Mail quotes Bannan as saying.

"I always wanted to play for my country and I still get goosebumps thinking about our game last year against Lithuania when I got a huge ovation from the Tartan Army after I was substituted late in the game.

"The last thing I want to happen is for the supporters to turn against me and for me to do something that would damage Scotland. I will now speak with the manager and then take things from there."

Bannan has 10 caps for his country.
