Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert: 'We weren't good enough'

Paul Lambert says that Aston Villa did not do enough to win today's FA Cup third-round tie at home to League One side Sheffield United.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has said that Sheffield United deserve their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The League One outfit triumphed 2-1 at Villa Park this afternoon thanks to goals from Jamie Murphy and Ryan Flynn.

"It was bitterly disappointing after a really good win [against Sunderland] on Wednesday," the 44-year-old Scot told the club's official website. "To get knocked out was really frustrating. It hurts.

"Anyone who knows me will tell you I'm not the happiest person when we lose. We picked a really strong side to try and get through.

"I don't think we did enough to go through and that is me being honest. Good luck to Sheffield United in the next round. We had a lot of the ball and huffed and puffed. It was one of those kind of games."

The Villans take on Arsenal at home in the Premier League a week on Monday.
