Aston Villa predicted XI vs. Monaco: Possible starting lineup for Champions League clash

Sports Mole looks at how Aston Villa could line up for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Monaco.

Aston Villa could be without midfielder Amadou Onana as they square off against Monaco in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The Belgium international had to be taken off during Villa's 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Saturday with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, leaving Onana as a major doubt ahead of the clash with Monaco.

It serves as another blow in midfield for the visitors, as John McGinn has only just returned to training following a thigh injury, and he is another doubt ahead of this match.

Should those two be unavailable, Unai Emery could bring Leon Bailey into the team, while moving Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans slightly further back in midfield.

Definite absentees for Villa are Ross Barkley (calf) and Pau Torres (ankle), with Emery likely to go with a similar team to the one that started at Arsenal on Saturday evening.

Elsewhere, Diego Carlos is suspended for this clash, although he is currently nursing an ankle injury, so may not have started this game regardless.

Aside from Onana, the only other likely switch from the weekend will be Lucas Digne coming in for Ian Maatsen.

The Dutch defender was replaced by Digne at the start of the second half on Saturday, with the substitute putting in an excellent performance, which included an assist for the goal scored by Tielemans that got Villa back into the game.

Having performed so well from the bench on Saturday, he is likely to get the nod ahead of Maatsen from the start for the clash against the Ligue 1 outfit.

Ollie Watkins continued his recent good form, scoring his third goal in four league games to snatch a point at the Emirates on Saturday.

Given his recent run of goals, he is likely to continue in attack ahead of Jhon Duran, as the England international looks full of confidence at the moment.

Aston Villa possible starting lineup:
Martinez; Digne, Mings, Konsa, Cash; Kamara, Ramsey, Rogers, Tielemans, Bailey; Watkins
