Wenger: 'We'll be active until deadline day'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he will be "on alert" for new signings until the transfer deadline on Monday.

Reports have claimed that the Gunners will be looking for a new striker after Olivier Giroud was ruled out until the New Year with a broken foot.

Radamel Falcao, Edinson Cavani and Danny Welbeck have been named as possible cover options for Arsenal, and while Wenger has not alluded to specific targets, the Frenchman has insisted that the club are in place to bring in some more players.

"I will be actively involved on deadline day. I will be on alert until the last minute," Wenger said in his weekly press conference. "We have shown in the last two seasons that if there are players to buy we will do it. The last few days [of the transfer window] are like poker games."

Arsenal have acquired the signatures of Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Calum Chambers so far this summer.
