Wenger: Spending won't solve problems

Arsene Wenger has claimed that he will not rush to buy players in the January transfer market in order to solve Arsenal's defensive frailties.

The Gunners have a number of casualties on the sidelines and the loss of defensive cover was apparent during Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United yesterday.

"I don't [need to spend to improve]," said Wenger. "Spending money is not the target. It never has been in life.

"We need our players back. We missed 10 players. When you see what we created in the second half, it's important for us to get the players back."

The Frenchman has come under fire from Gunners supporters for substituting Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for out-of-form Andrey Arshavin during the clash at the Emirates.
