Arsene Wenger: 'Calum Chambers not leaving Arsenal on loan'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that defender Calum Chambers will not be leaving the club on loan.

Reports had suggested that Southampton were keen on bringing the 20-year-old back to St Mary's Stadium following his £16m move to the Gunners last summer.

However, Wenger has insisted that the England international remains an important part of his plans in North London.

"I want to develop him as a centre-back. He will get games at Arsenal," the Frenchman told reporters.

Chambers scored one goal in 36 appearances for Arsenal last season.
