Ezri Konsa set for dream Arsenal debut as £55m Aston Villa transfer fee broken down

Konsa lined up for dream Arsenal debut as £55m transfer fee broken down

Ezri Konsa has completed his move from Aston Villa to Arsenal, but he will have to wait a little while longer to make his Gunners debut.

Konsa has become Arsenal's fifth signing of the summer window after Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes and has penned a four-year deal with the option of a fifth.

The Premier League champions have agreed to fork out a potential total of £55m, made up of a £51m fixed fee and £4m in performance-related add-ons, for the England international.

Konsa will reinforce an Arsenal backline that has lost William Saliba to a serious back injury, one that could keep the Frenchman out for the remainder of the calendar year, while Jurrien Timber is still nursing a groin problem.

The ex-Brentford man can therefore provide cover for either stricken teammate at centre-back or right-back, and he made no secret of his desire to collect more silverware in red and white.

Ezri Konsa "hungry" to win trophies with Arsenal

"I’m super excited. It's a privilege to be here and can’t wait to get started," Konsa told the official Arsenal website in his first interview.

"I want to keep winning, I’m hungry to win and that’s what I’m here for. It's a proud moment for me and my family to play for one of the best teams in the world."

The 28-year-old will sport the number 15 shirt for Arsenal, a jersey previously held by Jakub Kiwior before the Poland international's departure for Porto on a permanent transfer.

Cesc Fabregas, Ray Parlour and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have also donned the '15' down the years for Arsenal, who Konsa joins after scoring 12 goals in 286 appearances for Villa across all competitions.

Why Ezri Konsa isn't playing for Arsenal against Coventry

Arsenal had shaken hands on a deal for Konsa with Aston Villa on Wednesday, but the Gunners did not wrap up the finest details in time for the player to be available for tonight's Premier League opener vs. Coventry City.

In order to have been eligible for the visit of Frank Lampard's side, Konsa would have had to have been registered by 12pm on Thursday, a deadline that Arsenal missed.

Instead, Cristhian Mosquera will join forces with Gabriel Magalhaes in the heart of the champions' defence, leaving Arsenal with no recognised right-sided defensive option on their bench.

Konsa could instead make a dream Arsenal debut in their second game of the Premier League season, which coincidentally comes away to former club Aston Villa on August 31.
