Arsenal fans have been told not to expect any more arrivals at the Emirates this summer as Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze closes in on a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners' lack of creativity once again came to the fore against Manchester United on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, but they nevertheless left Old Trafford with a 1-0 win under their belts thanks to Riccardo Calafiori's goal from a corner.
A couple of hours earlier, rumoured target Eze started for Palace in their 0-0 draw with Chelsea - where he had a sumptuous free kick disallowed - in spite of the fact that he is seemingly edging closer to joining Tottenham in a deal that could be worth £55m.
The Lilywhites initially backed off a deal for the England international, but Arsenal never struck an agreement with Palace, and Tottenham have now made a concerted effort to bring him to North London following James Maddison's ACL injury.
However, owing to Ethan Nwaneri's new contract and Noni Madueke's signing, Gunners legend Ray Parlour does not believe any more players will be signed in the current window, exclusively telling Sports Mole: "It’s a difficult one as the squad depth looks pretty good.
Eze to Arsenal a great signing "in different circumstances"
"Arsenal have two top players for each position now and with the likes of Max Dowman also being integrated in the squad, they look like they are set, and I don’t see any more incomings at all.
"If anything, with the players in the squad, it’s likely a couple may leave on loan. It was good for Madueke to get his debut coming on yesterday. He will learn how Mikel wants him to play, but like I said, it was so important Arsenal got off to a winning start.
"Eze is the player Arsenal have been linked with but with Nwaneri signing a new deal and the signing of Madueke, it’s unlikely this one will go through.
"I like Eze a lot, and in different circumstances he would have been a good signing for Arsenal. I believe this squad has capabilities of having a very good season."
Crystal Palace will not give the final green light to Eze's move to Tottenham without first signing a replacement, although they are said to be making progress on that front, having approached Leicester City over a deal for Bilal El Khannouss.
Might Arsenal really not sign anyone else this summer?
Reiss Nelson, Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga - five men who previously had a part to play at Arsenal, all absent from the squad to face Man United at the weekend.
Mikel Arteta finally has the depth he has been crying out for for so long, even if that is partly down to Arsenal's inability to make any significant sales in the summer transfer window, where the focus up until now has been on incomings and contract renewals.
However, the Gunners should now try to accelerate exits for the quintet above if they are to bring anyone else in, and it may also take the exit of a Leandro Trossard or a Gabriel Martinelli for Arsenal to pursue another big-money transfer.
The Eze ship has seemingly sailed, but Arsenal are understood to retain an interest in Real Madrid's Rodrygo, whom they have been handed a boost in their pursuit of thanks to one of their Premier League rivals withdrawing from the race.
The Brazilian would command significant wages as well as a hefty transfer fee, though, so unless a big sale goes through or another market opportunity emerges, the chequebook may be closed for the summer.
