Chelsea, Arsenal 'still battling for Gabriel Magalhaes'

Chelsea and Arsenal are both still in the hunt for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes, according to a report.

Chelsea and Arsenal are reportedly both still in the hunt for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes despite suggestions that Everton are firmly at the head of the queue.

The 22-year-old, who has scored once in 34 appearances for his French club this season, is believed to be a leading target for Everton ahead of this summer's transfer window.

The Toffees are thought to be in a strong position when it comes to the Brazilian, but according to ESPN, both Chelsea and Arsenal are still battling to secure the centre-back's signature.

The report claims that Carlo Ancelotti's side have already made a £30m offer, but Lille are hopeful that interest from elsewhere will help drive the price up in the coming weeks.

Magalhaes only signed a contract extension with his French club in February, meaning that he is currently tied to Christophe Galtier's side until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Chelsea and Arsenal are also allegedly both still interested in signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens.
