Arsenal confirm £75m Bruno Guimaraes signing as contract details, shirt number revealed

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

The Brazil international has penned a four-year contract at the Emirates Stadium until the summer of 2030, and he will sport the number 39 shirt in North London.

Neither Arsenal nor Newcastle United have disclosed the amount the midfielder has gone for, but the Gunners are believed to have forked out £75m to bring him to the English capital.

In a statement, Newcastle announced that the agreed fee for Guimaraes "represents one of the top 10 highest transfer fees ever received for a player aged 28 or over, and a record fee for a player of his age and position combined."

Guimaraes heads to the home of the Premier League champions following a highly successful four-and-a-half-year spell with Newcastle, winning the EFL Cup and playing a critical role in the Magpies' Champions League qualifications under Eddie Howe.

The South American penned an emotional tribute to the St James' Park faithful in a statement on the Newcastle website, saying: "This is one of the toughest decisions of my life. When I arrived, the club was in a challenging position and I am incredibly proud of what we achieved together.

"I fell in love with this place. I really mean that. From my first day, the supporters, my teammates, Eddie and the staff, and everyone connected with the club made me and my family feel at home.

"I thank PIF, our chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and Jamie Reuben for everything they have done for me and for this football club. I also want to say thank you to David and Ross for the huge respect to me throughout this process. They did everything they could to keep me at Newcastle, and I am very grateful for our time together.

"This move is very tough because Newcastle means so much to me, but I wanted to experience something new in my life. I feel ready for a new challenge for myself and my family. I had a very positive conversation with Matthias Jaissle, and I leave knowing the club is in very good hands.

"To the supporters, thank you will never be enough, but I say it with all my heart. I will always be proud to have been part of this club's journey. Thank you for everything."

Guimaraes scored 31 goals in 195 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions and follows Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon out of the door, as well as former head coach Howe.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old has become Arsenal's fourth signing of the summer window, after Piero Hincapie - whose loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen was made permanent - French goalkeeper Illan Meslier and Greek winger Christos Tzolis.

When could Bruno Guimaraes make his Arsenal debut?

Guimaraes had already begun training at London Colney before he was announced as an Arsenal player, as an administrative issue held up confirmation of his £75m arrival.

The Brazilian could theoretically be in contention for Sunday's Emirates Cup match against Borussia Dortmund as a result, given he also spent time in a Newcastle training camp following his return from the World Cup.

Alternatively, Guimaraes could simply be unveiled on the pitch Eberechi Eze-style, before making his bow against Cesc Fabregas's Como on August 12.
