Barca president: ‘Fabregas wants transfer’

Cesc Fabregas is “doing everything he can” to return to his boyhood club Barcelona, its president Sandro Rosell has claimed.

The Arsenal captain has again been linked with a move following the Catalan club’s rejected bids last summer.

Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood has revealed that coach Pep Guardiola’s side has made an approach, but Rosell insists that they won’t pay over the odds.

“[Fabregas] is doing everything he can to come [to Barcelona],” he told TV3. “Guardiola knows the values of players and Cesc’s is less than €40m (£35m). Barcelona will offer less and if [Arsenal] don’t accept then he won’t come.

“Pep knows the club is not well-off in terms of money.”

Last week Emirates teammate Bacary Sagna claimed in an interview that Fabregas was hopeful to head to Barca, but the 24-year-old then assured fans that he was happy at his current club.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are closing in on a deal for Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez.
