Aston Villa reportedly turned down as many as three bids for midfielder Douglas Luiz during the January transfer window.

Aston Villa reportedly rejected a number of offers for midfielder Douglas Luiz during the January transfer window.

While the Brazil international is highly regarded at the West Midlands outfit, he has just 17 months remaining on his contract.

At a time when Villa were being heavily linked with Rodrigo Bentancur, who has since joined Tottenham Hotspur, the 23-year-old's status inevitably made him an attractive option for other clubs.

According to the Daily Mail, Villa decided to reject three bids for Luiz during the opening month of 2022, including a £30m offer from Spurs.

Arsenal were also heavily linked with Luiz, although it is unclear whether the Gunners backed up their admiration of a player who is familiar with head coach Mikel Arteta through their time at Manchester City.

Luiz has made 16 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season.
