Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta believes that the signing of Mesut Ozil in the summer was "a great message from the club".
The German playmaker joined the Gunners from Real Madrid for a reported £42.5m on transfer deadline day and has already been impressive for Arsene Wenger's side.
"It was a great message from the club because everyone was really expecting a top, top player, probably a striker rather than a number 10, but in the end we got an amazing player and that gave a lift to everyone, not only us but you can see the people are excited again to come and watch and that makes a big difference," Sky Sports News quotes Arteta as saying.
"A player like Ozil gives you a step forward quality-wise and gives you another player on the pitch who can decide the game for you."
Ozil left Madrid after three years, winning the La Liga and the Copa del Rey once each during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.
