Arsenal transfer news: Gunners to 'proceed' with Eberechi Eze pursuit on one key condition

Arsenal will 'proceed' with pursuit of Palace star Eze on one key condition

Arsenal are reportedly still interested in signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, providing that one key condition is met.

The Gunners can be delighted with their transfer activity thus far, particularly now that they have finalised the addition of Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres.

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, defender Cristhian Mosquera, midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard, as well as winger Noni Madueke have also arrived at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite spending on deals that could reach close to £190m, Arsenal have continued to be linked with England international Eze.

However, with just over a month remaining of the summer transfer window, there has been little progress with their pursuit of the playmaker.

What do Arsenal need to happen to sign Eze?

According to The Athletic, Arsenal officials will only proceed with attempting to sign the 27-year-old if one particular development occurs.

Arsenal allegedly need Palace to drop their asking price for Eze, which is effectively his release clause of £68m.

Although the North Londoners could generate funds through player sales now that Mikel Arteta's squad has been bolstered, they are still reluctant to pay one of the biggest fees in their history.

From Palace's perspective, they are under no pressure to lower their demands at this stage, particularly when they are bidding to avoid losing multiple key players.

Oliver Glasner has also voiced his concern over a lack of first-team additions with only left-back Borna Sosa being acquired to strengthen his wing-back options.

Would Eze push for Arsenal move?

Having spent five years at Selhurst Park where he has become a club legend, Eze will feel that he is due his chance to test himself at a bigger club.

Contributing 40 goals and 28 assists from 167 appearances and scoring the winning strike in a historic FA Cup triumph over Manchester City means that his legacy with the Eagles is cemented.

Nevertheless, Eze will surely not want to tarnish that, particularly when he has just two years left on his contract and knows that Palace can ill-afford to risk losing him on a free transfer.

With Palace also in contention to have a lengthy run in European competition, whether that be the Europa League or Conference League, Eze could have the platform to further enhance his reputation on that front.

Therefore, pushing for an Arsenal move would be ill-advised at this point if Arteta's side still need to raise funds to get a deal over the line.
