Arsenal to rival Liverpool bid for Ashley Williams?

Arsenal are to rival Liverpool for the signature of Swansea City defender Ashley Williams, according to a report.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been impressed with the Wales international's performances this season after sending scouts to watch him in action at the Liberty Stadium.

Arsenal will make a bid in the region of £9m as they look to beat Brendan Rodgers's side to the 28-year-old's signature, according to The Mirror.

Rodgers's past relationship with Williams at Swansea, however, could sway any decision made by the defender.
