Arsenal reportedly failed with a late approach for Sao Paulo defender Robert Arboleda before the end of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal reportedly made an approach for Sao Paulo defender Robert Arboleda during the closing days of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners made some high-profile additions before the start of the Premier League campaign, bringing in the likes of David Luiz, Kieran Tierney, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe.

However, according to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, the Gunners had also been interested in securing a deal for Ecuador international Arboleda.

A source is quoted as telling Nicola: "We were approached by Arsenal three days before the end of the transfer window in England."

The transfer failed to materialise, although it is suggested that Sao Paulo are still open to selling the 27-year-old in the near future.
