Arsenal to battle Liverpool for signature of Real Madrid's Asier Illarramendi?

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to battle Liverpool for the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

Arsenal are reportedly determined to beat Liverpool to the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

The Gunners are believed to be keen to come to an agreement with club and player regarding a summer move.

However, reports in Spain claim that Liverpool are considering an £18m bid for the 24-year-old, which would result in the player sealing a deal with the Merseyside club before the transfer window closes at 11pm this evening.

According to The Metro, despite Liverpool's desire to sign Illarramendi this month, Arsenal are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure that the player joins the Gunners at the end of the season.

Last week, Illarramendi reportedly rejected a move to Athletic Bilbao.
