Team News: Fabio Vieira starts for Arsenal, Martin Odegaard absent

Fabio Vieira starts for Arsenal, Martin Odegaard absent

Fabio Vieira has been handed his first Premier League start for Arsenal's London derby with Brentford, as Martin Odegaard misses out through injury.

The Gunners captain is understood to have sustained a minor issue in training, which prevented him from being put through his paces at full capacity in the week.

As a result, Vieira - who made his full debut for Arsenal in the Europa League against FC Zurich - comes in for his first start in the English top flight, while Emile Smith Rowe remains absent with his groin issue.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus unsurprisingly make up the rest of the attacking lineup, and there is a space on the bench for 15-year-old Ethan Nwaneri.

Should the teenager come off the bench at the Brentford Community Stadium, he would become the youngest player in Arsenal's history and the youngest-ever debutant in the Premier League.

With Odegaard absent, Granit Xhaka captains the Gunners from the engine room, and he is joined by the returning Thomas Partey, who demotes Albert Sambi Lokonga to the bench after recovering from a thigh injury.

Oleksandr Zinchenko also misses out after sustaining a muscular problem, so Kieran Tierney joins Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale in the rearguard.

A youthful bench also includes Matt Smith, Marquinhos and Lino Sousa, the latter of whom has taken advantage of Zinchenko's absence to act as cover for Tierney.

Arsenal starting lineup: Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tierney; Xhaka, Partey; Saka, Vieira, Martinelli; Jesus

Subs: Turner, Tomiyasu, Holding, Sousa, Lokonga, Smith, Nwaneri, Marquinhos, Nketiah

Brentford starting lineup: Raya; Ajer, Jansson, Mee; Hickey, Janelt, Jensen, Dasilva, Henry; Mbeumo, Toney

Subs: Strakosha, Roerslev, Zanka, Canos, Onyeka, Baptiste, Ghoddos, Damsgaard, Wissa
