Serge Gnabry named in Germany Olympic squad

Arsenal midfielder Serge Gnabry is included in Germany's squad for this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Arsenal midfielder Serge Gnabry has been included in Germany's squad for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer.

The 21-year-old endured a difficult spell on loan at West Bromwich Albion last season, making just three appearances for the Baggies in all competitions.

Gnabry has not featured in Arsenal's first team since the 2013-14 campaign, but has been a regular in Germany Under-21 squad since last year.

Under-21 manager Horst Hrubesch is also in charge of the Olympic side, and he has included Gnabry in his squad alongside the likes of Matthias Ginter and Lars and Sven Bender.

Players such as Leroy Sane, Joshua Kimmich and Julian Weigl were all eligible for selection but have been left out due to their involvement in Euro 2016 earlier this summer.

Germany have been drawn against Mexico, South Korea and Fiji in Group C of the Olympics football tournament.

Germany Olympic squad:

Goalkeepers: Tim Horn, Jannik Huth

Defenders: Robert Bauer, Matthias Ginter, Lukas Klostermann, Philipp Max, Niklas Sule, Jeremy Toljan

Midfielders: Lars Bender, Sven Bender, Julian Brandt, Max Christiansen, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Max Meyer

Forwards: Nils Petersen, Grischa Promel, Davie Selke
