Derby between Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur finishes all square

Nothing separates Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as they play out a 1-1 draw in Sunday's Premier League North London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have played out a 1-1 draw in Sunday's Premier League North London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

Both sides began the game brightly and enjoyed forays into the opposition final third, but there were no concrete chances until the 20th minute when Christian Eriksen fired a shot which flew wide of the right post.

Five minutes later Eric Dier came close after creating himself some space in front of goal and connecting with a corner, but his header sailed inches wide.

Spurs went on to take the lead just after the half-hour mark as Danny Rose's clever ball over the top was met by Harry Kane, who showed good composure inside the box to bury the ball into the back of the net.

The hosts set about trying to pull level and came close in the 39th minute when Alexis Sanchez darted into the penalty area and unleashed a low drive towards the middle of the net, but Hugo Lloris was alert and thwarted his effort.

Mauricio Pochettino's charges then almost added a second just before the break, with Kane rifling a powerful shot towards goal from the edge of the box, but Petr Cech managed to keep the ball out.

The second half exploded into action from the off as Lloris made a one-handed stop to push out a low shot from Joel Campbell after the Arsenal man cut onto his left foot, shortly before Eriksen fired from a tight angle to force a corner off the thigh of Flamini.

Arsene Wenger's charges came within a whisker of drawing level when Olivier Giroud edged away from his marker to meet a free kick, but his header from five yards out crashed against the bar.

Plenty more action was to come as Giroud then headed a yard wide from a corner, while ex-Chelsea stopper Cech had to be alert to claw away efforts from Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld.

Eyebrows were raised when Wenger replaced striker Campbell with Kieran Gibbs, but his decision was rewarded when Mesut Ozil's cross into the box found the left-back, who rifled the ball inside the left post to pull the hosts level.

Giroud had several more chances to find a winner for Arsenal, but his 78th-minute effort flew over the top and his header five minutes later was kept out by the impervious Lloris, whose side hung on for a share of the spoils.

The result sees Arsenal remain second in the Premier League table, behind leaders Manchester City on goal difference, while Spurs climb to fifth place.
