Arsene Wenger insists that Robin van Persie is not carrying the team after helping Arsenal beat Stoke City 3-1 on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal are not a one-man team after Robin van Persie came off the bench to help his side beat Stoke City 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Dutchman was introduced with the score at 1-1 before he struck twice to earn the three points for the Gunners.

Despite being Arsenal's top scorer this campaign with seven league goals, Wenger believes that his team are capable of scoring without Van Persie.

"I don't feel that we're a one-man team at all," he said. "When you want to be a team with quality you always have a player – we had Thierry Henry – who comes out and is on the end of things.

"It has been the same for Drogba [at Chelsea] and Rooney [at Man United].

"The problem was to score goals and Van Persie can do that better than many people. He did it when he came on."

The Gunners, who are now seventh in the Premier League table, host Bolton Wanderers in the Carling Cup fourth round on Tuesday.
