Wenger: 'Walcott loves the club'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that winger Theo Walcott "loves the club" and is "not obsessed by money".

Walcott, who has just a year left on his current deal, has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer, with reports suggesting that the England international was asking for wages of up to £75,000 a week.

However, the two parties have reportedly come to a short-term agreement that will see Walcott remain at the club beyond Friday's transfer deadline, and Wenger believes that the 23-year-old is not a mercenary.

"Theo has one year to go. We want to extend his contract. I think Theo loves the club," said Wenger.

"He is not obsessed by money, there is just a little difference [in the negotiations]."

Arsenal travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in their next Premier League match on Sunday.
