Arsene Wenger: 'I am not ready to face Arsenal with another club'

Arsene Wenger hints that his future may lie away from English football as he cannot imagine managing against Arsenal, where he spent 22 years in charge.

Departing Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is "not ready" to face off against the Gunners with another club.

The Frenchman officially brought down the curtain on his 22-year managerial spell with the North London outfit on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Wenger has already been approached by a number of sides, including offers from Premier League teams, but the 28-year-old has hinted that his next job will lie away from English football.

Asked about the prospect of coming up against Arsenal in the future, Wenger told reporters: "I'm not ready for that at the moment. That would be very difficult. I don't envisage that at the moment.

"I had offers, yes of course, but I did not speak to anybody. I had many offers. When you come out of such a long process you cannot jump out the next morning and go to work somewhere else. It's impossible.

"Herbert Chapman - maybe our greatest manager - was from [Huddersfield]. For me to come here on the last day had a special meaning when you know the history of our club. There was a photo just in front of the dressing room, where Chapman smiled at me because he was on the photo."

Long-serving boss Wenger leaves Arsenal with a record of 707 wins, 280 draws and 248 defeats.
