Arsene Wenger hopeful of Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta involvement

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is hopeful that midfield duo Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta will be available for the club's Premier League opener with Aston Villa on Saturday.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that both Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta will be fit enough to feature against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Cazorla played 90 minutes during Spain's friendly in Ecuador, while Arteta is currently nursing a thigh problem, but Wenger has revealed that he is encouraged by the feedback that he has received.

The Frenchman told reporters: "We have had positive news from the players on international duty. All the texts that we had have back are okay.

"The games were quite intense, but we hope everyone comes back in good shape. Cazorla played almost a full game. He only lands in London tonight, so we will see how he is tomorrow.

"Mikel has a slight thigh problem. We have to check that. I don't know if he will be out for the weekend. He has a scan today."

If Cazorla and Arteta miss out on Saturday, Wenger will be eager to have both available for the Champions League tie at Fenerbahce next Wednesday.
