Shoulder injury to keep Mesut Ozil out of Cardiff City clash

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that midfielder Mesut Ozil is unlikely to be fit to face Cardiff City on New Year's Day because of a shoulder problem.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that star midfielder Mesut Ozil is unlikely to be fit to face Cardiff City at the Emirates Stadium on New Year's Day.

The 25-year-old Germany international missed Sunday's 1-0 win at Newcastle United with a shoulder injury.

After his side's win at Newcastle, which sent the Gunners top of the Premier League table, Wenger told BBC Sport: "Mesut Ozil has a shoulder problem.

"I don't think he will be available for Cardiff on Wednesday, maybe after that, we will see."

Ozil has scored five goals in 22 first-team appearances for Arsenal, whom he joined from Real Madrid in September.
