Per Mertesacker: 'Arsenal must improve at set pieces'

Pert Mertesacker claims that Arsenal must improve how they handle set pieces at both ends of the pitch.

Per Mertesacker has claimed that it is vital Arsenal improve their approach to set pieces at both ends of the pitch ahead of their return to Premier League action this weekend.

Despite failing to score a goal of their own from a corner yet this season, the Gunners have often looked vulnerable defending in the same situations, and Mertesacker is eager to see the team make progress in that department.

"We need to improve on that this season because we've conceded from them already," the German defender told the club's official website.

"It's all about reminding ourselves how good we are in the air from set pieces, but we have to get to the ball and stop opponents getting into dangerous areas. That's what we need to improve.

"A lot of it has to do with concentration, strictness and good deliveries and good timing. We have to make sure that we are ready and concentrating on every set play."

Arsenal meet Hull City at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
