Jack Wilshere steps up return to first team by starting for Arsenal Under-21s

Jack Wilshere starts for Arsenal's Under-21s as he works his way back to the first team following eight months out with a broken leg.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is edging closer to a first-team appearance after being named in the starting lineup for tonight's Under-21s clash.

The 24-year-old has missed the entire season so far with a broken leg, and has just seven games left to feature in before the campaign comes to a close.

Wilshere, who returned to training with the first-team squad last week, has been selected by U21s boss Steve Gatting for tonight's match against Newcastle United U21s at the Emirates.

Not only is the midfielder working his way back into Arsene Wenger's team, he is trying to book a place in Roy Hodgson's England squad for this summer's European Championships in France.

Tomas Rosicky, who has been out with a thigh injury since the end of January, also starts for the U21s in tonight's match.
