Olivier Giroud: 'I'll fight for starting spot'

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud feels confident of keeping his fine scoring run, while vowing to fight for his place if a new striker arrives at the Emirates.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has insisted that he feels confident in his ability to lead the line, vowing that any new signings will face a fight to take his place in the side.

Giroud has scored in three successive games for the Gunners so far this season, with the latest strike coming in a 3-1 success at Fulham on Saturday.

With Karim Benzema the latest high-profile forward to be linked with a move to the Emirates the Frenchman has once again welcomed speculation surrounding new faces, while declaring that he feels of confident of maintaining his fine recent form.

He told the club's official website: "I am in good [form], I feel really confident in the games. If I do the job on the pitch, no more questions.

"If there is a new striker that comes in it is a good thing for the squad. I try to give my best for the team to win and nothing more.

"When it doesn't work [on the pitch] people want to talk about new signings. We really wanted to show the squad is together, we wanted to give an answer on the pitch and we did well. We played really well and scored three goals again. We are really confident now."

Arsene Wenger's side are back in action tomorrow night in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce.
