The Football Association asks Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for his "observations" after the Frenchman described a decision to give Chelsea a penalty as "farcical".

The Football Association has released a statement to reveal that it has asked for the "observations" of Arsene Wenger after his recent comments regarding referees.

Wenger faces the prospect of a stadium ban after an exchange with referee Mike Dean after the 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion on New Year's Eve, but the Arsenal boss now faces the possibility of further action.

The Frenchman has suggested that a number of decisions going against his team is 'not a coincidence' while after the 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Wednesday night, Wenger described the decision to give the Blues a penalty as "farcical".

A statement read: "The FA has requested observations from Arsene Wenger for media comments he made on Tuesday [02/01/18] and after last night's Arsenal versus Chelsea match [03/01/18]. He has until 6pm on Tuesday 9 January to respond."

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher says that the referee made the correct decision to give a foul for Hector Bellerin's challenge on Eden Hazard inside the area, while he has also hit out at Wenger for instigating criticism aimed at Dean.
