Jamie Carragher: 'Arsenal cannot afford to lose to Crystal Palace'

Jamie Carragher says that Arsenal need to win this weekend's game against Crystal Palace after falling to West Ham United on the opening weekend.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has claimed that Arsenal will be "desperate" to get all three points against Crystal Palace this weekend following their opening-day defeat to West Ham United.

Arsene Wenger's side suffered a surprise 2-0 loss to the Hammers at the Emirates last Sunday.

This weekend, the Gunners will travel to Selhurst Park to take on Alan Pardew's Palace side who opened their campaign with a 3-1 triumph over Norwich City.

"It is not the end of the world, Arsenal losing their first game, but they would not want to lose two out of two, and certainly not against teams we would not call giants of the Premier League in West Ham and Palace," Carragher wrote in his Sky Sports column.

"So it would be a really poor start for them if they did and I am sure they will be desperate to get three points on the board."

Out of last season's top four, only Manchester City and Manchester United picked up maximum points on the opening weekend.
