Karren Brady has backed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger not to resign from the club, adding that the Gunners could be in a much worse situation than they are now.

Wenger's future is again a subject of speculation after two damaging defeats to Manchester City in the space of five days, which left Arsenal without the EFL Cup and 30 points behind the Premier League leaders.

West Ham United chair Brady, however, says that Manchester United's fortunes since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford point to a situation that Arsenal are lucky to have avoided so far.

"He has a hard shell does Wenger," Brady wrote in her column in The Sun. "Beaten easily by City, he lashed out at the nearest target, the referee, accusing him of not playing the full added time. But the fourth official's response was: 'Why do you want more time?'

"A neat answer. But Wenger's question betrays a perfectionist, a manager also with his eye on even the tiniest detail and one, I am sure, who will never resign from Arsenal, the club he was born to manage. So if he won't quit, who's going to tell him he must go? That's the problem with losing your main man, you have to find another, better. Does the chief vulture or anyone else have an idea who he might be?

"At Old Trafford, they thought they had the problem of the succession to Sir Alex Ferguson all locked up. But they didn't and neither did they seem to have a clue as to how much they would need to spend to try to rebuild their squad. No longer can United, Arsenal or anyone else toss a few thousand pounds across the Channel and pick up genuinely great players such as Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira or Robert Pires."

Arsenal face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday in their next Premier League outing.
