Arsenal are reportedly considering a shock move for Manchester United assistant manager Rui Faria as Arsene Wenger's replacement at the club.

Arsenal are reportedly considering a shock approach for Manchester United assistant manager Rui Faria to replace Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners have been linked with a host of names as they search for a new manager for the first time since 1996, with the likes of Massimiliano Allegri, Luis Enrique and Carlo Ancelotti understood to be near the top of their list.

However, a number of candidates with less managerial experience have also been touted - such as former players Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira - and The Mirror reports that Faria has now entered the frame.

The 42-year-old has worked alongside Jose Mourinho for more than 15 years but is understood to harbour managerial aspirations of his own, which could see him part company with his Portuguese compatriot should Arsenal come knocking.

However, Faria is reportedly one of as many as 14 names on Arsenal's shortlist and is not thought to be among the club's top targets to replace the long-serving Wenger.
