Aaron Ramsey praises Arsenal "character"

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey praises the "great character" of his teammates to secure a draw in the North London derby.

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has praised his teammates for showing "great character" to salvage a point in today's North London derby.

The Welshman had opened the scoring for the Gunners at White Hart Lane, but in a defining moment of the contest, Francis Coquelin received his marching orders for a challenge on Harry Kane as the hour-mark approached.

Spurs soon made their numerical advantage count as two goals in the space of three minutes put them ahead, but the resilience of the visitors was rewarded when Alexis Sanchez found an equaliser with 15 minutes left to play.

"It was important after back-to-back defeats to come here and try to get a result," Ramsey told reporters in a post-match press conference. "I thought in the first half we did well, but they came out in the second half and got the two goals in quick succession. We were under the cosh a bit but we carried on and got the equaliser.

"I think we needed a performance like that after the couple of defeats that we've had. We needed to come here and get something and we managed to do that with 10 men.

"Of course, [being down to 10 men] is always difficult, especially against a top team like them, but we did show great character to come back from 2-1 down."

The point saw Arsenal cut the gap on league leaders Leicester City to five points ahead of the Foxes' trip to Watford.
