Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil is expected to miss his side's final two games of the season after suffering a recurrence of a back injury.

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a recurrence of a back injury.

Ozil was absent from the matchday squad for the Gunners' 5-0 win over Burnley on Sunday, although he did travel to the Emirates to be part of the farewell ceremony for manager Arsene Wenger, who took charge of his final home game as Arsenal boss.

Arsenal still have two matches of the season to come - away to Leicester City on Wednesday and Huddersfield Town on Sunday - but Wenger is doubtful that the German playmaker will be available for either.

"Mesut Ozil had a recurrence of his back problem. I don't think he will be available again before the end of the season," Wenger told reporters prior to his side's win over Burnley.

Arsenal can no longer finish any higher or lower than sixth place in the Premier League table, but will be looking to end a dismal run of away form which has seen them lose all six league games on the road this calendar year - the worst record in England and Europe's top five leagues.
