Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirms that Takehiro Tomiyasu is training and battling to be fit for Thursday's Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed that Takehiro Tomiyasu is fighting to be fit for Thursday's Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The right-back has been struggling with a calf problem in recent weeks and was not in the squad to face Burnley just before the international break.

Tomiyasu did not link up with the Arsenal squad for their training camp in Dubai and was also absent from Japan's squad for the latest round of fixtures, but Arteta has not ruled the 23-year-old out of Thursday's game yet.

Speaking to reporters at his pre-match press conference, Arteta said: "He's there. He had a recurring injury so we had to be careful with him. He's been training hard. Let's see if he's available for Thursday."

Fellow right-back Cedric Soares also sustained a hip injury before the break, which could therefore see Arteta deploy Ben White as an emergency right-back should the Portuguese and Tomiyasu both miss out.

The Gunners boss also spoke about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during his press conference, claiming that he was the "solution" rather than the "problem" in their frosty relationship.
