Arsene Wenger eyeing Arsenal history with FA Cup treble

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger sets his sights on becoming the first team since the 1880s to win the FA Cup three years in a row following his side's win over Sunderland.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has set his sights on winning the FA Cup for a third season in a row.

The Gunners ended a nine-trophy drought by lifting the trophy with an extra-time victory over Hull City in the 2013-14 final, while last season they thrashed Aston Villa at Wembley to win the competition for a record 12th time.

Another triumph this season would make Arsenal the first club to win it three years in a row since Blackburn Rovers between 1884 and 1986, and having beaten Sunderland 3-1 this afternoon to reach the fourth round, Wenger insists that his side will try to emulate that feat.

"We have only one left to win. We have done it twice. What I will say is we take this competition with a desire to do well in it and to try to win it. It is a long way in the cup and you need a long run," he told reporters.

"When you play a Premier League team you are always going to have to work. We had a very convincing half and took over more slowly.

"In the first half we went one down and we had to find our way because we were sharp in midfield. After that slowly in the second half we took over, played in their half and scored great goals and created many chances."

Wenger has already won the FA Cup six times as a manager, a tally that only Aston Villa's George Ramsay can match in the competition's history.
