Armenia coach steps down

Bernard Challandes has stepped down from his position as the head coach of the Armenian national side.

The 63-year-old has made the decision following the weekend's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Albania, which resulted in the team slipping to the bottom of Group I in Euro 2016 qualifying.

"It is written in my contract that we need to get a certain number of points to qualify from the group and in the worst case scenario, I should tender my resignation," Challandes told the Armenian governing body's official website.

"I think it is fairly obvious to everyone at the moment why I stepped down."

The Swiss boss took up the post back in July last year.
