Jan Vertonghen backs Netherlands to beat Argentina

Jan Vertonghen says that the Netherlands will have too much quality for Argentina in their World Cup semi-final clash.

Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen has backed the Netherlands to beat Argentina in Wednesday's World Cup semi-final.

Alejandro Sabella's side laboured to a 1-0 victory over the Belgians on Saturday to seal their place in the last four of the competition.

However, Vertonghen is convinced that the South Americans will come up short against their Dutch counterparts next week.

"I think Argentina will crash out of the tournament against Netherlands in the semi-finals. I really think so," the Tottenham Hotspur defender told Goal.com.

"Netherlands are very strong and play some good football. They are always calm on the ball and have the quality to eliminate Argentina."

Louis van Gaal's side sealed their place in the next round by beating Costa Rica in a penalty shootout on Saturday night.
