Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Argentina could line up for Wednesday's 2022 World Cup Group C clash with Poland

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni may decide to freshen up his starting lineup once again for their final Group C clash against Poland on Wednesday.

After suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in their opening fixture, the 44-year-old boss made five changes to his side against Mexico on Saturday, with La Albiceleste going on to secure a crucial 2-0 victory courtesy of second-half strikes from Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandez.

Indeed, Messi will be the first name on the teamsheet for Argentina, and the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is likely to be joined in attack by Lautaro Martinez and Angel Di Maria, although Julian Alvarez and Paulo Dybala are also in contention for a starting berth.

Fernandez has impressed for La Albiceleste in his two cameo appearances off the bench, and after scoring his first international goal last time out, the 21-year-old midfielder could be handed his first start in Qatar alongside Rodrigo De Paul, while Guido Rodriguez, Alexis Mac Allister and Leandro Paredes are all set to battle it out for the final spot in the three-man midfield.

Nicolas Otamendi appears to be Scaloni's first-choice centre-back, and the 34-year-old Benfica man could partner Lisandro Martinez for a second successive match, with Cristian Romero watching on from the bench.

Scaloni has used four full-backs in his opening two matches and seems unsure as to which pair are his preferred options in the first XI. Juan Foyth is yet to get a run-out in Qatar and he will be pushing to start at right-back ahead of either Gonzalo Montiel and Nahuel Molina, while Nicolas Tagliafico could return at left-back at the expense of Marcos Acuna.

Argentina possible starting lineup: E. Martinez; Molina, Otamendi, Li. Martinez, Tagliafico; Fernandez, Paredes, De Paul; Messi, La. Martinez, Di Maria
