Jaap Stam to join Ajax

Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam will join Ajax as a defensive coach when his contract with PEC Zwolle expires at the end of the season.

The 40-year-old Dutchman, who made 67 appearances for his country, was once regarded as one of the best central defenders in the world during an illustrious playing career.

According to reports in Holland, Stam will sign a three-year contract with the four-time European champions, which will come into place on July 1.

Stam also played for PSV Eindhoven, Lazio and AC Milan.
