Arkadiusz Milik penalty helps Ajax see off FK Baumit Jablonec

Milik penalty helps Ajax beat Jablonec

Ajax have beaten FK Baumit Jablonec 1-0 in their Europa League qualifying playoff first leg, Arkadiusz Milik's second-half penalty proving the difference at the Amsterdam ArenA.

The Dutch giants asserted themselves on the game in the opening stages and saw Riechedly Bazoer fire just wide of the post in the 17th minute.

Davy Klaassen's cross then found Milik, who was unable to keep his header on target, but Jablonec responded through Jan Gregus, who put a curling effort just wide after 32 minutes.

Anwar El Ghazi also tried his luck in the 39th minute, but his effort was too weak to beat Michal Spit, leaving both sides to go in level at the break.

The away side were first to threaten in the second half when Tomas Wagner fired wide just a minute after the restart.

Ajax, however, were given the chance to draw first blood when Vit Benes's foul on Davy Klaassen in the box prompted the referee to award them a penalty.

Milik stepped up to the spot and duly tucked the ball into the bottom-right corner to give his side the lead, one they would not go on to relinquish come the final whistle.
