Ajax vs. ADO Den Haag - prediction, team news, lineups

Eredivisie leaders Ajax welcome ADO Den Haag to the Johan Cruyff ArenA on Sunday in search of an eighth consecutive home win in all competitions.

Meanwhile, the visitors have won only one league game since the turn of the year, picking up eight points from a possible 36.

Match preview

Ajax moved one step closer to glory with a fairly comfortable 2-0 win over PEC Zwolle at the MAC³PARK Stadion on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag's men did the damage in the first half as goals from David Neres and Nicolas Tagliafico ultimately decided the game.

De Godenzonen restored their eight-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie table, and they still have a game in hand on every other team in the top six.

Courtesy of a 2-0 win over Young Boys on Thursday which completed a 5-0 rout on aggregate, Sunday's hosts have made it through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where AS Roma await them.

Recent history between Sunday's opponents only points towards one outcome, as the home side have won the last five meetings between the teams and are unbeaten in the last 20 clashes.

ADO Den Haag were defeated for the second match on the bounce following a 2-1 loss to Heracles Almelo at the Cars Jeans Stadion on Saturday.

Ruud Brood's men took the lead with a quarter of the game remaining, but they were unable to preserve that advantage, conceding two goals in the final 20 minutes of the contest.

De Ooievaars remain bottom but one - seven points from safety - and with only eight games left to play, they are in a race against time to stay up.

Sunday's visitors were beaten 6-1 on their last trip to face the hosts, and they will be wary of being on the end of another heavy defeat.

Team News

Andre Onana has been banned from footballing activities until next February after testing positive for Furosemide in a drug test that was conducted in October.

Noussair Mazraoui sustained a head injury in the middle of last month versus Heracles, and he has not featured since then.

Nineteen-year-old Jurrien Timber will miss the game as he is currently down with a minor illness through which he has missed his side's last two matches.

Den Haag will have to deal with the absence of Peet Bijen, who pulled up in his side's KNVB-Beker triumph over Sparta Rotterdam in October.

Daryl Janmaat is also ruled out with a knee injury, but he is not far off a return to action after two months without making an appearance.

Ajax possible starting lineup:

Stekelenburg; Blind, Martinez, Alvarez, Rensch; Gravenberch, Promes, Klaassen; Tadic, Haller, Antony

ADO Den Haag possible starting lineup:

Koopman; Familio-Castillo, Kemper, Del Fabro, Van Ewijk; Pinas, Vejinovic, Pinas; Bourard, Kramer, Besuijen

We say: Ajax 5-0 ADO Den Haag

Den Haag have been all over the place defensively this term, and Ajax are renowned for their ruthlessness in attack. On that account, we are backing the home side to claim a routine victory with plenty of goals en route.
