League Two roundup: Fleetwood Town close in on top three

Fleetwood Town close in on the top three in the race for automatic promotion after defeating Cheltenham Town in a day of crucial action in League Two.

Fleetwood Town moved within striking distance of automatic promotion places in League Two thanks to a 2-1 comeback win over Cheltenham Town.

Cheltenham took the lead early on through Jamie Cureton, but Graham Alexander's side battled back in the second half and drew level through Antoni Sarcevic's penalty.

Fleetwood went ahead through Josh Morris minutes later and held out for a win to move within three points of third-placed Rochdale.

Top-of-the-table Scunthorpe United missed the chance to all but secure their promotion to League One as they dropped two points in the last minute of the game against Morecambe.

The Irons took the lead through Sam Winnall, but were denied the win in the 90th minute when Jack Sampson equalised for Jim Bentley's team.

Chesterfield battled to earn a point in their clash with Exeter City, who missed the chance to pull clear of the relegation battle at the foot of the table.

The home side fell behind to an 18th-minute strike from Matt Grimes and were then reduced to 10 men when Sam Morsy was dismissed. However, Eoin Doyle scored from the penalty spot to earn then a point.

York City moved into the playoff places at the expense of Oxford United, as they defeated the U's 1-0 at the Kassam Stadium thanks to a penalty from Michael Coulson.

Torquay United are all but relegated as they lost to Dagenham & Redbridge as Medy Elito scored from the penalty spot to hand Wayne Burnett's side a 1-0 victory.

Bury kept their small chances of reaching the playoff places alive as they hammered Plymouth Argyle 4-0 at Gigg Lane. Daniel Nardiello scored a brace while Andre Tutte and Danny Rose were also on the scoresheet to move their side to 10th in the table.

AFC Wimbledon battled back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Newport County. Goals from Chris Zebroski and Michael Flynn handed Newport the lead, but Kwesi Appiah and George Francomb earned the home side a point.

A late penalty from Kal Naismith earned a point for Accrington Stanley in their clash with Mansfield Town, after Jake Speight thought he had won the game for the visitors with his strike in the 75th minute.
